For SKT Gallery’s third virtual exhibition, Fake Space, we have collaborated with Arbor Standard, an Extended Reality company, to create an immersive art experience. We spoke to Arbor Standard’s Director, Kai Lam about the company and how art is merging with technology, especially during the lockdowns.
The mission of Arbor Standard and SKT’s goals fit seamlessly together. Kai put it perfectly when saying, “SKT is an amazing idea of bringing art and technology together to create a community of art lovers all around the world with no border, we are super excited to support this idea with our technologies.
Established in 2018, Arbor Standard has created one-stop Extended Reality (XR) experience for a variety of clients, from property and tourism, to now galleries with SKT. XR allows viewers to immerse themselves into different surroundings online, moving around rooms and interacting with objects in the spaces. “Arbor Standard is born with the belief of eliminating the constraints of space and time with XR technologies and unleashing infinite opportunities of both our professional and personal lives,” says Kai.

Arbor Standard works with real-life spaces, such as in Fake Space, allowing people to be anywhere in the world from their own home. The content that makes the XR experience is shot in person by Kai and his team, meaning that the viewer is getting a completely authentic experience of the real place. These online experiences have become more prevalent and vital during lockdowns across the world and Arbor Standard has seen an influx of demand and desire. “Lockdowns help people understand the value of VR and AR technology. We offer solutions in these scenarios, and the lockdowns make us busier to support our clients and partners in adopting our VR solutions,” says Kai.
We are seeing more and more online ways of showcasing art, through online viewing rooms and artist’s Instagram’s. SKT and Arbor Standard wanted to go a step further for our viewers and our artists, and give them a completely different experience then what is already online. “We think the traditional monotonous grid experience of e-commerce showcases artworks no more than a product with basic information, art needs to be put in space and gallery is the best showcase experience,” says Kai.
As virtual exhibitions become more standard, SKT looks forward to collaborating further with Arbor Standard. “We will combine the advancement of technology and insights of the industry to improve our virtual gallery solution, to add functions such as e-commerce and interactive tools, to build a more immersive and interactive experience,” says Kai. We hope you are as excited as we to see what unique and unusual space our next exhibition will be in.
